Blue Lightning -- Epyx/Atari

Based on the Lynx classic, Blue Lightning makes its debut on the big screen as one of the first titles for the Jaguar CD. Combat enemy jets, tanks, and helicopters as you fly both surface and air missions. Additions to the original include pre-rendered cinemas and the option to customize your pilot and plane, all the way down to your own selection of wing and tail art. Blue Lightning is available now.

Ferrari Man
Atari swore that the Jaguar wasn't going to be a "Lynx all over again." I beg to differ. Blue Lightning, like its little brother on the Lynx, was fun to play. However, there was nothing in this game justifying CD-ROM, and nothing graphically impressive. The cinematics were nicely rendered, but the play screens were pitiful. If you have not been spoiled by top end 16-bit graphics, or any Next-Generation system, then this game can still find a home on your shelf. However, not a good start to the next Jaguar peripheral.

Salamander
Blue Lightning was one of the best titles on the Atari Lynx... the Jaguar CD version is a remarkably similar translation. Unfortunately, the original Blue Lightning was released years ago on a portable system, and the Jag CD version is just TOO similar to the sorely outdated game. I expect MUCH more from a 64-bit CD system. The graphics are bitmappy and the gameplay is way too linear for today's standards. The thought was there, but this one is a no go.
